Hyperliquid's Open Interest Tops $6.6 Billion, and HYPE Is Now the Third-Biggest Market on Its Own Exchange
— By Tony Rabbit in Markets

Hyperliquid has quietly become one of the biggest trading venues in crypto, and we read it straight from the exchange's own API: about $6.6 billion of open interest on roughly $2.1 billion of daily volume. The detail inside the number is the story. HYPE, Hyperliquid's own token, is now the third-largest market on the platform at about $1.19 billion of open interest, behind only Bitcoin and Ethereum and roughly four times Solana's. On Hyperliquid, people are betting on Hyperliquid almost as heavily as on Ethereum, a reflexive dynamic that cuts both ways.
Hyperliquid has quietly become one of the biggest venues in all of crypto trading, and the clearest way to see it is open interest, the total value of leveraged bets sitting open on the exchange. We read it straight from the platform's own API, and the number is about $6.6 billion. Bigger than the headline total, though, is a detail buried inside it: HYPE, Hyperliquid's own token, is now the third-largest market on the platform, behind only Bitcoin and Ethereum, and ahead of every other coin, including Solana.

A token that trades like a blue chip
The standout is HYPE. At roughly $1.19 billion of open interest, the exchange's native token attracts more leveraged positioning than any asset on the platform except the two giants of the market, and it dwarfs the majors that usually sit near the top: its open interest is about four times that of Solana. In other words, on Hyperliquid, people are betting on Hyperliquid almost as heavily as they bet on Ethereum. For a token that did not exist two years ago, being the third-deepest derivatives market on its own venue is a remarkable statement of how central it has become.
The reflexive risk
That concentration is a double-edged sword. When an exchange's own token is also one of its most-traded products, the platform's fortunes and the token's price become tightly linked, a reflexive loop that can accelerate rallies and deepen sell-offs. More than a billion dollars of leveraged exposure to HYPE means that a sharp move in the token would ripple through a lot of positions at once. Funding rates across the top markets were mildly positive on August 1, around 0.03% a day, which is a calm, only-slightly-long picture; the risk is not in today's funding, but in how much is riding on a single ecosystem asset.
The bigger picture
Step back and the top-line number is the real headline: $6.6 billion of open interest on roughly $2.1 billion of daily volume puts Hyperliquid firmly among the largest derivatives venues in crypto, centralized or not. Bitcoin and Ethereum still anchor the book, as they should, together making up more than two-thirds of the top markets. But the fact that a platform token sits in third, ahead of Solana and every other name, is the kind of detail that only shows up when you read the exchange directly. We will keep watching where the leverage piles up.
Data note. Open interest and volume figures were read by DEXTools News from the Hyperliquid API on August 1, 2026: total open interest about $6.6 billion on roughly $2.1 billion of 24-hour volume, with BTC about $2.12B, ETH about $1.78B, HYPE about $1.19B, SOL about $0.30B and ZEC about $0.18B of open interest. Funding rates across the top markets were mildly positive (around 0.03% per day). Figures are approximate and change continuously. This is information, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions
How much open interest does Hyperliquid have?
About $6.6 billion in total open interest across all markets as of August 1, 2026, on roughly $2.1 billion of 24-hour trading volume, according to the Hyperliquid API read by DEXTools News. Bitcoin is the largest single market at about $2.12 billion of open interest, followed by Ethereum at about $1.78 billion.
What is HYPE's open interest on Hyperliquid?
About $1.19 billion, which makes HYPE, Hyperliquid's own token, the third-largest market on the exchange, behind only BTC and ETH. That is roughly four times the open interest on Solana (about $298 million) and larger than every other altcoin market on the platform.
Why does it matter that HYPE is a top market on Hyperliquid?
It shows how central the token is to its own ecosystem. Traders are placing more leveraged bets on HYPE than on any coin except Bitcoin and Ethereum, a reflexive dynamic where the exchange's token is also one of its most-traded products. It concentrates a lot of positioning in an asset tied directly to the platform's own success, which can amplify moves in both directions.
What is open interest?
Open interest is the total value of derivative positions, such as perpetual futures, that are currently open and not yet closed. Rising open interest means more capital and leverage are committed to a market; it is a measure of how much is at stake, distinct from volume, which measures how much is being traded. A high concentration of open interest in one asset shows where traders are placing their biggest bets.
